NEVER too old to play.

How many stay actively involved in sports throughout their lives?

Why is it that we think team sports end when we leave college?

We had a discussion at work the other day as to why people quit playing sports! Several reasons were: Family commitments, Work, Fear of Injury, and just other interests. The discussion was quite lively due to the different opinions on this subject. There are several of us who have made it a point to stay involved. Yes, we've all experienced injuries, aches and pains, but the love of a team sport runs deep. I personally enjoy having a group of friends to come together with and the friendly competition with other teams. I like the feeling of staying fit.

I love my team...and do you know the average age on my team?......about 40, maybe more. Our pitcher is the oldest and he is in his mid-70's!! If I can hit and run like he does when I reach that age....I will be a happy woman.

Do you think companies should promote more physical fitness for their employees....maybe require it?

I agree with you, Roxy. I HATE it that I can't play team sports because I work nights and weekends. I hate that "adult responsibilities" get in the way of enjoying the things I loved so much as a kid. (I was a total gym rat in academy.)

That being said, just wait till your kids get married and start having families ... it may be 10 years before they step out on a softball field again. And they'll swear it WON'T happen, but of course, it will. Because life has a way of getting in the way of living.

That's my point exactly....allow sports to be part of your life..rather than the past. The one thing I've encouraged my kids to do is to stay involved. This past summer was pure fun for me and my family. I had all three of my kids playing on the softball team with me. It was so much fun!

I encourage young parents to bring their kids to their sports events...we had a couple different toddlers at ours. Everyone would help keep an eye on them...it was no big deal.

I really do think corporate America needs to step up and continue to promote fitness for their employees. Start a company team.

Oh, man, that would be the best. And you're so right ... especially in a time when a lot of employers are charging overweight and smoking workers more in health premiums (or rewarding fit non-smokers at work with lower premiums). Why shouldn't the employer take a leadership role ... and make it fun while they're at it?

Ok, so I'm a bit behind here....the last I read, you were painting your house!

My favourite part of the week is Fridays, when we get to play in our rec volleyball league. The timing is a mite inconvenient, say if you want to get to the city for the weekend or something, but it's worth it! The more I play, the better I get (I'm 10x the player I was in high school...which isn't saying much, I guess...ha) and the better I get, the more fun I have and the more of a workout I get. I never saw volleyball as much of a physical sport...but that's cuz I never was ABLE to play hard enough to get the old heart rate up. Now, I'm dripping by the end of a match!

As far as companies encouraging employees to get out and play, I think it's a great idea. Us socialists up here have already got a tax credit on money spent for KIDS being involved in extracurricular sports and physical activities. I would like to see a similar thing put in place for adults.

Let's face it.....we've become a FAT society.

When eating out it seems like the portions are huge. Most people think that since they pay for dinner they have to finish it!!

I would love to see more organized sports within companies. It's a shame to see local ball/soccer fields sitting idle. School gyms that could be used so much more. Sometimes corporations don't value the employees health like they should. With the higher levels of stress today I think employees needs to be valued, which means stress/health management....not disposed of when they aren't meeting target dates...etc..

I love you son, but Mommy cant be nursing you whenever you want. He stared and stared, then silently leaned in and delivered a kiss to the sloppy core.
